Two Jefferson County Jail Buildings
Jefferson County records distinguish the active Justice Center jail from the old jail or Jefferson County Workhouse near Industrial Park Road. TDOC labeled the workhouse temporarily closed in January 2025, while an October 2024 county packet documented a month-to-month lease to Cocke County after Hurricane Helene damaged that county's jail. The old building's current operating status was not verified.
Do not merge those populations or records. A person housed in the old building under Cocke County authority may have a Cocke County booking, release, or transfer record even though the bed was physically in Jefferson County.
